A Coral Gables police motorcycle officer was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after colliding with an SUV, police said.

Around 3:40 p.m., the officer was driving up Alhambra Circle when he and a white SUV crashed at the intersection of Cantoria Avenue — causing him to fall off the motorcycle, according to Sgt. Alex Escobar, the public information officer for Coral Gables police.

The officer was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital; his condition is unknown.

“Personally, we are all hoping he pulls through, and there are no serious injuries,” said Escobar.

Only one person was in the SUV, and they were not injured. Neither the identity of the officer nor driver was released.

Police cordoned off the scene as they investigated and asked residents to stay away

“We all know who he is and...are hoping he makes a full recovery,” Escobar said.
