A Broward Sheriff’s Office Department of Detentions deputy is in the hospital after shooting herself during a training exercise Wednesday morning, authorities say.

The 9-1-1 call about a “self-inflicted accidental shooting” at Markham Park in Sunrise came in about 9:25 a.m., according to Gerdy St. Louis, a spokesperson for the Broward Sheriff’s Office. The unidentified deputy was treated by Sunrise Fire Rescue personnel and was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A gun range used by Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies is located at the park.
