Colorado Sheriff's Deputy Shot Twice Returns to Duty

Weld County Sheriff's Deputy Brandon Stupka returned to full duty this week after recovering from injuries sustained in a shooting last spring.

GREELEY, Colorado -- A Weld County Sheriff's deputy returned to full duty this week after recovering from injuries sustained in a shooting last spring.

Deputy Brandon Stupka responded with other law enforcement officers to a report of a disturbance involving a possibly armed man in the 2200 block of NW C Street the evening of Aug. 15, 2018.

When the deputies arrived, the suspect opened fire, hitting Stupka in the thigh and abdomen.

Deputies returned fire, wounding the suspect, who was transported to a hospital. Stupka was also transported to a local hospital and underwent surgery the following morning.

Since then he worked his way back to full health and on Thursday was joined by other law enforcement officers from around the area as he was placed back on patrol.
