A West Virginia State Police trooper and a Roane County Sheriff's deputy were shot and wounded Wednesday night.

Police responded to a 911 call for a person making suicidal threats around 6:15 p.m. and learned upon arrival that there had been a domestic situation inside the home, according to The Charleston Gazette-Mail.

When the trooper and deputy approached the home on Red Oak Drive in Roane County, officials say 52-year-old Stanley Hoskins Jr. opened fire.

The two officers were struck by the gunman's bullets, but were able to take cover and call for help. They were both transported to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Hoskins barricaded himself inside the home after the shooting and police were still handling the standoff situation just before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

Officials said Hoskins was the only person inside the home during the standoff.
