Watch Phoenix Police Use Grappler to Stop Fleeing Driver

May 3, 2022
After a man who had been passed out in his car woke up, rammed Phoenix police cruisers and drove off, officers deployed a grappler to stop the vehicle and apprehended the driver.

Phoenix police used a grappler over the weekend to apprehend a suspect who had fled officers and led them on a chase.

The incident happened at around 2:30 p.m. Saturday when police responded to a vehicle blocking a roadway, The Arizona Republic reports. When they reached the vehicle, officers found a man inside passed out.

After officers discovered the man had weapons inside his car, two police cruisers were brought in to block the front and rear of the vehicle. Once the man regained consciousness, he drove off, ramming the cruisers to escape.

A police helicopter was used to pursue the fleeing driver, and police eventually used a grappler to stop the vehicle. Once stopped, officers used a K-9 and less-lethal munitions to take the driver into custody.
