Ill. Police, Bystanders Pepper-Sprayed During Disturbance

The Jacksonville Police Department continues to investigate an incident that erupted over the weekend that in an area downtown that had seen an earlier disturbance.

Police are investigating a disturbance downtown Sunday night that resulted in several officers and bystanders being pepper-sprayed.

Details about the disturbance at 10:45 p.m. in the 200 block of East State Street or about any injuries were still being gathered Monday. Authorities said additional information was unavailable because it was an ongoing investigation.

A disturbance in the same area earlier Sunday resulted in five people being cited on disorderly conduct charges after police said they were fighting at about 12:30 a.m.

Three of those cited were also arrested on charges of resisting or obstructing police.
