A Tour of SHOT Show 2020

March 19, 2020
Findings from the floor—from a few new firearms, comfortable body armor, an origami shield, to a couple modern weaponlights.

SHOT Show actually started on Jan. 19 with an event hosted by 5.11 Inc. with Range Day following. There, people were stacked 20 deep at Glock for the new Model 44 .22lr. Ruger’s crowd waited to shoot its new 5.7mm handgun. LWRC hosted Matt Jacques of Victory First where he coached shooters on LWRC’s new .45ACP subgun—a firearm that could prove popular and a great investment.

This year marked Editor Hilary Romig’s first opportunity to attend the show. A few products caught her and Lt. Frank Borelli’s eye with some recent innovations that may change the tools of policing.

As with SHOT Show every year, hand sanitizer, lots of vitamin C and courtesy while coughing or sneezing was mandatory. Comfortable shoes and a bag you can carry comfortably make the show much more pleasant. Lace up your boots, let’s take a walk.

First that caught attention was a 15-round magazine for the Glock 48 from Shield Arms. By replacing the magazine catch and getting rid of the polymer wrap, the flush-fit 15-round magazines make the Glock 48 a 16-round (15+1) 9mm weapon. The same overall length and height of a Glock 19, it’s nearly a full quarter inch thinner which adds to comfort in the hand and some measure of concealability.

There was so much more. It might be best to check the event out for yourself.

Will we see you next year?
