KoolSpan Inc. and NTP Software announced an OEM relationship to bring to market a new product called SafeFile, one of the first mobile encryption file sharing solution of its kind.
With the new SafeFile application, NTP Software adds to its portfolio and extends secure file management from the data center and desktop to smartphones and tablets. The architecture uses KoolSpan’s TrustChip, a micro SD chip with secure digital technology. The SafeFile solution will be scalable and all-inclusive and keep file data safe from hackers, misdeeds and accidents.
By utilizing KoolSpan’s TrustChip & TrustGroup technology, NTP Software SafeFile will allow secure file viewing and sharing between two people or a defined group of people. TrustGroup’s private key encryption technology enables security between any set of users or devices. Users with the same TrustGroup in common are able to establish a secure connection, mutually authenticated and encrypted. With SafeFile, files will be secure at every point of existence, including when in transit between users, at rest or between the data center and user.
A recent Infographic from Kensington, a maker of computer accessories, puts some statistics behind the problem: 70 million smartphones are lost each year, with only 7 percent recovered; 4.3 percent of company-issued smartphones are lost or stolen every year with an alarming 52 percent of devices stolen from the office/workplace with another 24 percent from conferences.
SafeFile encrypted file sharing will be commercially available toward the end of the year by KoolSpan and NTP Software. The service will target enterprises, large and small; government and law enforcement agencies and any industry where data on mobile devices needs to be kept secure.
