The ORTEC Detective-EX is the only proven handheld radiation identifier that uses a High Purity Germanium Detector. It is now being deployed by bomb squads throughout the United States. With the potential terrorist threats of a Radioactive Dispersive Device (RDD) or an Improvised Nuclear Device (IDD), it is necessary to have a Radiation Identifier that can accurately determine the contents of a suspicious package. Unlike Sodium Iodide based identifiers, which commonly confuse naturally occurring radiation and potential threat radiation sources, the Detective-EX accurately identifies the gamma signature and can even identify Special Nuclear Material (SNM) which could be used to make a nuclear device. The latest Detective-EX software includes an SNM Search Mode to provide an ultra-sensitive search capability.
