Scene of the Crime

Aug. 20, 2007
Scene of the Crime: Photographs from the LAPD Archive is a book that taps into America's fixation with police work. Los Angeles in the decades following the Depression was a smoldering powder keg of vice, corruption, violence and some of the most sensational crimes in American history. These cases were captured in striking crime scene and forensic photographs by the Los Angeles Police Department. Recently discovered in a forgotten warehouse, the photographs are published here for the first time, accompanied by captions from police logs and original newspaper accounts. With an introduction by James Ellroy, foreword by William Bratton and essay by Tim Wride, this Harry N. Abrams Inc. book will be available this fall at www.abramsbooks.com.
