A Baton Rouge police officer escorting a pregnant woman to a hospital ended up helping her deliver the baby on the side of the road, the Baton Rouge Police Department said in a Facebook post Sunday.

According to the post, Cpl. Jason Lee was working extra duty on Greenwell Springs Road on Saturday when he was flagged down by a driver requesting a police escort to a hospital for her daughter, who was about to have a baby.

As Lee was escorting the vehicle, the woman began going into labor and he was advised to pull over to the shoulder of Florida Street and Central Thruway, the post said.

"Lee called for medical assistance and sprang into action," the post says, helping to deliver a healthy baby boy.
