A woman was shot and killed by Balcones Heights police after she allegedly charged at least one officer with a homemade weapon.
Marta Lamar Prater, 49, was fatally shot in a confrontation with officers about 8 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of North Crossroads Boulevard, KSAT reports.
Prater was identified Monday by the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office. She died of a gunshot wound, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Charley Wilkison, executive director of the Combined Law Enforcement Association of Texas, posted on social media that the incident unfolded when an officer responding to a call for backup spotted Prater threatening another officer with a knife and a homemade weapon.
Both officers tried deploying stun guns, but she was unfazed.
When Prater charged one of the officers, another officer opened fire, striking her at least once, Wilkison said.
Balcones Heights Police Chief John Jahanara told KSAT that Prater also broke the rear window of a patrol vehicle.
Neither officer was injured in the incident.
