LOS ANGELES -- A Los Angeles Police officer died over the weekend from complications of surgery related to a 2015 on-duty crash.
Officer Esmeralda Ramirez died on June 9, becoming the LAPD's 210th officer to have died in the line of duty, according to a news release.
"Her death is a reminder of the potentially life altering and tragic events that an officer faces every day they come to work," officials said in a statement. “Her commitment to her follow officers and this Department is only eclipsed by the love she had for her family."
The 49-year-old officer joined the department in 2008 and was assigned to the Pacific Division.
