NFL Pro Bowler Donates 2nd K-9 to N.J. Police Department

March 4, 2024
The Atlantic City Police Department relabeled the cruiser Carlo, its new K-9, will ride in after long-time Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Fletcher Cox, who donated the dog.

Atlantic City’s police force is stronger thanks to help from an NFL athlete who, for a second time, donated a canine the department intends to use to rid the community of narcotics and other dangers.

Fletcher Cox, a long-time defensive lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles, donated “Carlo” to the police force, the second dog he helped the city acquire in support of K9 units in South Jersey.

Carlo and his handler on Friday completed training at the Atlantic County John “Sonny” Burke Police K-9 Academy in Corbin City, graduating from a course in narcotics detection, Atlantic City police said Monday. The duo was also given the Johnny “Sonny” Burke Award, which was voted on by members of their class.

Police also relabeled the car the animal will ride in as “K9-91” after the Cox’s jersey number.

Cox last year donated another police dog, “Narco,” who previously completed the program. City police obtained the service animal through funds Cox donated to the agency.

Cox has been a multi-time Pro-Bowlers in his tenure with the Eagles. He was selected by the team in the 2012 NFL Draft.
