Puerto Rico Corrections Officer Dies While Participating in Riot Control Training

Puerto Rico Corrections Officer David Torres-Chaparro died after suffering a medical emergency while participating in riot control training on Thursday.

A Puerto Rico corrections officer died after suffering a medical emergency while participating in riot control training this week.

Corrections Officer David Torres-Chaparro began complaining of a strong pain in his chest during a training exercise held on Thursday, according to El Vocero.

He was transported to the Municipal Hospital of Vega Alta where he was pronounced dead.

Chaparro worked with the Tactical Operations Unit of Aguadilla and served for the last 24 years with the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation.

"In the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation we join the pain of the family of our comrade David and we send our most sincere support in these times so hard for them," head of the agency Rolón Suárez said in a statement translated to English from the newspaper.
