Pocomoke Police K-9 Jet, a 5 1/2-year-old black lab, was struck and killed by a vehicle on Sunday.

The Pocomoke Police Department in Maryland is mourning the loss of one of its K-9s after it was struck and killed by a vehicle over the weekend.

K-9 Jet, a 5 1/2-year-old black lab that served with the department since 2014, was killed in the crash Sunday, according to a news release.

Jet regularly assisted outside agencies in a variety of investigations and was well-known in the community for participating in demonstrations with her handler, Cpl. Matthew Conner.

"Jet took pride in making Pocomoke a safer place and we thank her for her exemplary service," Pocomoke Police Chief William H. Harden Sr. said in a statement.

A Memorial Service for Jet is set for Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pocomoke Community Center.
