Michigan Police Officer Killed in On-Duty Crash

Norton Shores Police Officer Jonathan Ginka was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday.

A Norton Shores, Michigan police officer was killed in an on-duty crash early Wednesday morning.

Officer Jonathan Ginka's department-issued SUV struck a tree on Henry Street just south of Ross Road around 2:30 a.m., according to MLive.com.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and began treating the 10-year veteran of the force. Ginka, 34, was transported to Hackley Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Ginka leaves behind his wife and two children.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

The cruiser sustained heavy damage in the crash and no other vehicles were involved.

The Michigan State Police is currently investigating the cause of the crash.
