A New Jersey State Police trooper had to be extricated after being involved in a cruiser crash Monday afternoon.

A New Jersey State Police trooper had to be extricated after being involved in a cruiser crash Monday afternoon.

It took crews more than 30 minutes to free the trooper who became trapped in the vehicle following the wreck that occurred in the eastbound lanes of I-78 in Warren Township around 3:30 p.m., according to WCBS-TV.

Officials said that he was flown by helicopter to University Hospital in Newark where he was treated for serious, but non-life-threatening leg injuries.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
