A Pennsylvania State Police trooper who was set to go on trial later this month died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Thursday.
Trooper Eric D. Zona was found in a wooded area off of Torrance Road near Binky Lane in North Huntingdon after the incident occurred between 3:40 p.m. and 4:20 p.m., according to The Tribune-Review.
Zona had been accused of exposing himself to a woman last year at a Westmoreland County barracks annex. He was scheduled to stand trial starting Oct. 31 on misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure and open lewdness. He pleaded not guilty at a preliminary hearing in April.
The 46-year-old served 19 years as a state trooper.
