A Washington State Patrol trooper risked his own life to rescue a driver from a fiery wreck Thursday morning.
Trooper Darin Fehlhafer was on patrol when he spotted a black Mercedes speeding eastbound on I-90 in rural Kittitas County, accoridng to KOMO-TV.
The deputy attempted to overtake the vehicle -- which going an estimated 122 miles per hour -- when the driver lost control of the car and crashed into a parked semi truck as he exited the highway.
Fehlhafer stopped as car burst into flames on the off ramp and discovered that the injured driver was unable to get out of the vehicle on his own. The trooper jumped into action and pulled the driver from the burning wreckage.
The driver, was out on bail from an October arrest involving a South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper,was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.
"Putting his own life at risk, Trooper Fehlhafer quickly took action to save the severely injured driver of the Mercedes," Washington State Patrol officials said in a news release.
