A six-hour standoff in Fort Myers, Florida ended last week after the suspect fell asleep.

Police responded to the apartment complex on C Street around 9:15 p.m. on May 19 after a woman called 911 to report that she was in an argument with 34-year-old Derrick Walden and that he was armed, according to WBBH-TV.

When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect was holding the woman inside and made several threats to shoot at them.

The department's SWAT team and Critical Incident Negotiations Team responded and continued to negotiate with the man who was determined to be suicidal.

Around 3 a.m., officials realized he had fallen asleep and were able to go inside and take him into custody.

Walden was booked into the Lee County Jail and charged with felony battery, misdemeanor battery, domestic violence (strangulation), possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and probation violation.
