A Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff's deputy was shot multiple times while conducting a traffic stop early Saturday morning.
The deputy was working DUI enforcement when he made the traffic stop in the area of Price Road and University Drive around 2:14 a.m. when a person in a passing vehicle opened fire, according to The Arizona Republic.
The 10-year veteran was struck twice in the leg before the suspect fled the scene.
He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and underwent surgery Saturday morning. He remains in stable condition
"It was, in essence, a drive-by (shooting)," Sheriff's spokesman Deputy Joaquin Enriquez told the news station.
Following the shooting, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio tweeted that "the war on cops continues."
Authorities described the vehicle as an '80s or '90s silver Cadillac A description of the shooter was not given.
