Florida Deputy Critically Injured in Crash

Escambia County Sheriff's Deputy Hector Escajeda was critically injured and five other people were hurt in a two-vehicle wreck Monday evening.

An Escambia County, Florida Sheriff's deputy was critically injured and five other people were hurt in a wreck Monday evening.

Deputy Hector Escajeda was traveling south on Beulah Road in his department-issued Chevy Tahoe when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection at U.S. 90, according to The Pensacola News Jounal.

The 31-year-old deputy's SUV collided with a Dodge pickup truck driven by John Yvarra, who was traveling west on U.S. 90 and was unable to stop, striking the left side of the Escambia County Sheriff's vehicle with the front of his truck.

Escajeda was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital were he was listed in critical condition. Yvarra, 58, and his passengers, Patricia Yvarra, 57, Damen Hadder, 12, James Hadder 13, and Christan Hadder, 10, also were transported to Sacred Heart Hospital.

John Yvarra was listed in serious condition while the others sustained only minor injuries.

Officials said that all of the occupants involved in the crash were wearing their seat belts and that alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating the wreck.
