'#BlackLivesMattter' Written on Officer's Dunkin' Donuts Cup

A Providence police officer had purchased coffee from a local Dunkin' Donuts on Friday when he noticed what an employee had written on his cup.

It appears as though Connecticut police officers aren't the only ones having a problem getting a cup of joe to go.

A police officer in Providence, Rhode Island purchased coffee from a local Dunkin' Donuts on Friday night and his cup had a message from an employee written on the cup: "#BlackLivesMattter," according to GoLocalProv.com

The incident has gained attention after Officer William "Billy" O'Donnell posted a picture of the cut and a description of what happened to his colleague Facebook.

"So my coworker just went to get a coffee Dunkin Donuts on Atwells Ave in Providence. The worker was immediately rude, and didn't appear to want to serve him in uniform," he said in the post. "Upon leaving he noticed what she wrote on his coffee cup … #blacklivesmatter. Would you drink it? My suggestion ... absolutely not, go to Starbucks. When is this silliness going to end. But if the store gets robbed she'll be calling us immediately to help AND we will because that's what we do!!!!"

This is the second reported incident over the weekend in which a police officer was given a hard time by a Dunkin' Donuts employee. On Saturday, a West Hartford, Connecticut police officer waiting in line was told by an employee that "we don't serve cops here.".

Providence Police Officer Mike Iamondi, Vice President of the local FOP, told the news outlet that officers are concerned about the incident and if anything was put into the cup by the worker.

"We have to look at the possibility if "Black Lives Matter" is on the cup, is there anything else going into the cup?," he said. "That is a possibility, given what's going on around the country. If a guy goes in for a cup of coffee at a place we know, where we're patrons at, and they've always been great with us, do we have to worry?"

Iamondi said, "This is unacceptable -- all lives matter. We took great offense. Has it gotten to the point everywhere we go, do we have to wonder if someone is going to try and slip us something and without us knowing? Where does it end?"

He stressed that while the incident is not a reflection on the owner, but a single act by a single employee, it is still unacceptable and must be addressed by the company.

On Sunday, Dunkin' Donuts release the following statement: "Dunkin' Donuts and our franchisees want all guests to be treated well in our restaurants. The franchisee has apologized on behalf of the employee to the police and very much regrets the situation."
