Grover D. Cannon was arrested a day after he allegedly killed Shreveport Officer Thomas LaValley.

Authorities captured the suspect in the fatal shooting of a Louisiana police officer Thursday afternoon.

Grover D. Cannon was arrested at a home on Jackson Street in Shreveport a day after he allegedly killed 29-year-old Officer Thomas LaValley, according to KTBS-TV.

Cannon faces a first-degree murder LaValley's death and was also wanted for attempted murder in connection with a shooting in July.

The officer's death around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday night triggered a massive manhunt and the FBI was offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

Prior to the shooting, police were sent to a house in the 3500 block of Del Rio to a suspicious-person call. A woman reported that a man was in her neighbor's house and threatening the people there and also said the man might have a gun and was a fugitive.

Officials said that LaValley, who was wearing his uniform, went inside and ordered Cannon to show his hands before the suspect opened fire. Cannon then fled the house.

Other officers responding to the call found LeValley wounded, pulled him out of the house and called paramedics. He was taken to University Health Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"There is nowhere he can go, nothing he can do, to stop us from bringing him to justice," Police Chief Willie Shaw during the manhunt. "No matter what rock he crawls under, we will find him. He is nothing to me but a coward."

LaValley, a four-year veteran of the Shreveport Police Department, was an honor graduate of his police academy class.
