Colorado Cadet Fatally Struck by Suspect's Car

Colorado State Patrol Cadet Taylor Thyfault was killed and Trooper Clinton Rushing was injured.

A Colorado State Patrol cadet was killed and a trooper was critically injured after they were struck during a pursuit Saturday.

Cadet Taylor Thyfault and Trooper Clinton Rushing were attempting to deploy stop sticks on Colorado Highway 66 near Weld County 1 when the suspect's vehicle hit both men who were outside their vehicle, officials said.

The 27-year-old trooper was transported to a local hospital while the 21-year-old cadet was pronounced dead on the scene.

Officials said that the suspect's car failed to yield to officers and went into a scene of an ongoing crash investigation. The suspect was apprehended and is currently in custody.

Longmont Police Department is currently investigating the investigation.
