Denham Springs Officer James Foster was en route to a crash when a driver pulled in front of him.

A Denham Springs, La. motorcycle officer died Tuesday, one day after he was injured in a wreck.

Officer James Foster was responding to a previous crash around 5:30 p.m. Monday evening when a driver pulled in front of his motorcycle on O'Neal Lane in Baton Rouge, according to The Advocate.

The 39-year-old officer was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, where he was treated before being taken off of life support Tuesday afternoon.

Foster had graduated from law enforcement motorcycle school only weeks before, though he had experience riding his own.

"We work this stuff every day. We see this stuff every day, but when it’s one of your own people … it's just hard," Detective Glenn Lemoine told the newspaper. "You try to be a tough guy — you're a cop — but we're all human beings."

Foster is survived by his wife, 19-year-old daughter and 18-year-old son.

The incident is currently under investigation.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
