Missouri Officer Killed in Cruiser Crash

Alton Officer Eddie Johnson Jr. died in a cruiser crash while responding to a house fire Monday.

An Alton, Mo. police officer died in a cruiser crash while responding to a house fire Monday.

Officer Eddie Johnson Jr. was en route to the blaze when he lost control of the vehicle and veered off of U.S. 160 and rolled the cruiser several times, according to KYTV.

The 45-year-old, who is also the fire chief of the Alton Fire Department, was not wearing his seat belt and was pronounced dead on the scene. He was also reserve deputy with the Oregon County Sheriff's Office.

Missouri State Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash.

Johnson is survived by his wife and three children.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
