A Cleveland police officer was saved by his bulletproof vest after being shot in the chest early Monday morning.
The shooting occurred after officers John Lyons and Matthew Pollack responded to a report of a man causing problems on Ottawa Avenue, according to WEWS-TV.
Officials say that Deshawn R. Castleberry opened fire on the officers as they approached him, hitting Lyons. Officers returned fire, wounding the suspect.
Castleberry fled the scene on foot and was found more than two hours later and was arrested and transported to MetroHealth for treatment for a gunshot wound in his chest.
