More than three years after she disappeared from her West Tennessee home, the remains of Holly Bobo have been found.
The director of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation called a press conference late Monday night to confirm that the skull found over the weekend in Decatur County is that of the 20-year-old Bobo, who disappeared in April 2011. The skull was found on property a few miles from the home of the primary suspect in the case.
"(We have) been able to confirm that the remains are that of Holly Bobo," Mark Gwyn said from Decatur County. "I would like to extend my condolences to the family and friends of Holly Bobo."
Gwyn said the remains had been confirmed through dental records. Although a skull was found, it was unclear late Monday if any other remains had been recovered.
The Bobo family didn't speak at the Monday press conference, but family members are expected to make a statement Tuesday afternoon.
Bobo's disappearance rattled West Tennessee after a family member told police he'd seen her being dragged through the woods.
The case was seemingly at a standstill until this spring, when TBI agents arrested Zachary Adams. Although officials have revealed little of what one official called "voluminous" evidence Monday night, Adams has been charged with kidnapping and murder.
A second suspect, Jason Autry, faces the same charges as Adams. Brothers Jeffrey Kurt Pearcy and Mark Pearcy also face charges of tampering with evidence and accessory after the fact.
"I assure you all, this is not over by any means," Gwyn said Monday night. "The investigation is still going on to get to the truth."
Matthew Stowe, district attorney for that area of West Tennessee, said his office will make a decision on seeking the death penalty "in a couple of weeks."
"We are going to make sure that everyone who has taken part in this heinous crime ... faces consequences for that," he said.
