A Kalamazoo, Mich. police officer saved a choking woman during a traffic stop over the weekend, and the incident was captured on his cruiser's dashboard camera.

Officer Jason Gates pulled over a vehicle in the 4100 block of S. Burdick Avenue around 11:35 a.m. on Saturday, according to WOOD-TV.

When he walked up to the vehicle he stopped for running a red light, he found the female driver struggling to breathe.

Gates moved quickly and administered back blows in an attempt to dislodge whatever was blocking the woman's airways. After his initial attempts were unsuccessful, he removed the woman from the car and used the Heimlich maneuver.

A bite of sausage and bun flew out of her throat and she instantly started to breathe again.

She then began crying and threw herself into the officer's arm, thanking him for saving her life.
