Indiana Sheriff's Deputy Dies in Rollover Crash

Tipton County Deputy Jacob Calvin was responding to a previous crash when his cruiser rolled over.

A Tipton County, Ind. Sheriff's deputy was killed in a crash while on duty Saturday night.

Deputy Jacob Calvin, 31, was responding to a previous crash at State Road 28 and County Road 500 West shortly before 10 p.m. when his cruiser rolled over, according to WISH-TV.

Indiana State Police investigators said that the two and a half year veteran of the force was driving at a high rate of speed with his emergency lights and sirens on when the crash occurred.

Calvin's vehicle left the roadway and rolled several times, coming to a stop about 100 yards away from the road.

p> He was ejected from the cruiser and died from his injuries. The preliminary investigation revealed that the deputy was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
