The trooper was reported in stable condition at Bayhealth General Hospital following the shootout.

A Delaware state trooper was wounded and a 29-year-old man killed in a shootout in Magnolia, Kent County, Tuesday morning, police said.

The 26-year-old trooper was reported in stable condition at Bayhealth General Hospital, authorities said.

The trooper, a 4-year veteran of the force, was responding to a report of a violent domestic dispute when the shooting occurred about 7 a.m., said Sgt. Paul Shavack, a state police spokesman.

According to Shavack, the trooper stopped a car as part of the investigation and the man inside came out with a gun in his hand.

Who fired first is under investigation, but the trooper and the man traded gunfire, the spokesman said. The man died later at the hospital.
