La. Police Officer Shot in Neck

Sgt. Ricky J. Benoit was shot in the neck while responding to a domestic disturbance call Monday.

A veteran Jennings, La. police officer is recovering after he was wounded Monday morning.

Sgt. Ricky J. Benoit was shot in the neck while responding to a domestic disturbance call at a residence in the 100 block of South Street shortly after 11 a.m., according to The American Press.

The 25-year veteran of the force was transported to Lafayette hospital and is listed in stable condition. Police Chief Todd D'Albor said that while the officer was shot in the neck, he was alert and in good spirits.

Officials said that Jennings was called to the residence in response to a physical altercation between a boyfriend and girlfriend and was attempting to speak to a male subject inside the residence when the incident occurred.

No one else was injured in the shooting.

A second officer was outside of the residence talking to the female victim when the shooting occurred and was able to detain the suspected gunman.

The incident is being investigated by Louisiana State Police and Jennings Police Department.
