A Ramsey County cruiser spun out during a pursuit and crashed into a commercial building.

A Ramsey County sheriff's squad car spun out on a curve during a Thursday night pursuit and crashed into a commercial building in Vadnais Heights, hitting a natural gas line and sparking a fire.

The deputy had no visible injuries in the 10 p.m. crash but was taken to a local hospital to be checked out, said Randy Gustafson, spokesman for the Ramsey County sheriff's office.

The officer was apparently pursuing another vehicle westbound on Willow Lake Boulevard and was unable to make the turn southbound onto Labore Road. The squad car then crashed into a commercial building on the southwest corner, in the 3400 block of Willow Lake Boulevard, Gustafson said.

No one else was injured.

Firefighters requested mutual aid to help put out the fire and had the blaze contained within an hour.

Details about the pursuit and the extent of damage to the building weren't immediately available late Thursday.
