Soledad Sgt. Thomas Marchese was attacked by a teen who also stabbed his grandparents Monday.

A Soledad, Calif. police sergeant was stabbed Monday afternoon after coming to the aid of an elderly couple whose grandson went on a violent spree.

Sgt. Thomas Marchese was stabbed multiple times by the 17-year-old, who also stabbed his grandparents, at a house on Second Street around 3:30 p.m., according to KSBW-TV.

Officers responded to the home after dispatchers received a 911 call with screaming in the background. Marchese was the first to enter the residence and was immediately stabbed by the teen.

Police Chief Eric Sills told the news station that the 10-year veteran of the force was in some pain, but was in "good shape."

The teen's grandparents were found lying on the floor in a pool of blood. The woman suffered from blunt trauma to the back of her head while the man had stab wounds in his back. Both were transported to a local hospital.

Police used a Taser on the teen, but it didn't have an effect and they had to wrestle him to the ground. They bound the teen by his hands and legs, and carried face-down into a police cruiser.
