GREENVILLE, Texas -- A local man is in custody at the Hunt County Jail, charged with violently attacking two officers with the Greenville Police Department.
One officer was slightly injured when the suspect threw a knife at his face.
Melbourne Francis Kym III, 27, is being held in lieu of a total of $409,500 in connection with the Monday afternoon incident.
Kym was charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant, and one count each of resisting arrest, search or transport with a deadly weapon and assault causing bodily injury/family violence.
According to a report from the police department, officers responded at around 3:30 p.m. Monday to a domestic violence call at 2309 Bonnie View.
The caller reported he had been assaulted by his roommate who has mental health issues.
Kym was reported to have refused to comply with the officers' attempts to take him into custody and threw a knife, striking one officer in the face. Officers ultimately gained control of Kym, who was treated for minor wounds.
The injured officer was transported to Hunt Regional Emergency Room for treatment.
The police department indicated the investigation remained open as of Tuesday evening.
Aggravated assault against a public servant is a first degree felony, punishable upon conviction by a maximum sentence of from five to 99 years to life in prison and an optional fine of up to $10,000.
