Suspect Convicted in 2012 Slaying of Florida Deputy

A jury on Tuesday found Brandon Bradley guilty of killing Brevard County Sheriff's Deputy Barbara Pill.

A Florida jury on Tuesday found a suspect guilty of fatally shooting a Brevard County Sheriff's deputy two years ago.

Brandon Bradley was convicted of four crimes, including the first-degree murder of Deputy Barbara Pill, at a courthouse in Viera, according to Florida Today.

Bradley had been accused of killing Pill during a traffic stop in March 2012. He was also found guilty of robbery, fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence.

"We had a chapter closed today, we still have another chapter to go," Sheriff Wayne Ivey told the newspaper after the verdict was announced.

Jurors returned to court on Thursday to begin the penalty phase in which the state will present evidence in favor of the death penalty.

While the jury had to be unanimous to find Bradley guilty, only a majority vote is required to recommend a death sentence. Judge Morgan Reinman will ultimately decide Bradley's fate.

Assistant State Attorney Tom Brown anticipated that process would wrap up by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
