KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. -- A Midlands K-9 officer that was hit by a vehicle on Sunday has died.

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office Bloodhound Officer "Corley" died while under anesthesia during an MRI, according to Sheriff Jim Matthews.

"Apparently there was too much stress on its heart," Matthews said.

The sheriff's office posted this comment on it's Facebook page:

"I regret to say that K9 Corley died this afternoon while under sedation for a CT scan. Her injury was too severe and caused too much damage to her heart. Thanks for all the phone calls and offers of financial support."
