Oklahoma City police have identified a man who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound while he barricaded himself in a northwest Oklahoma City home Saturday.

Tactical officers found Michael Scott Pena, 26, dead inside a home in the 18000 block of Montoro Way after a 5 1/2 -hour standoff, police Capt. Dexter Nelson said.

Police were called to the area about 12:45 p.m. by a woman thought to be the man's wife. She told police the man was armed and suicidal, Nelson said. When emergency crews and officers arrived, they saw a man beating a woman with a rifle on the front lawn.

The woman was led to safety behind a fire truck and the man ran back into the home.

Officers made multiple attempts to contact Pena by phone and bullhorn, but the man would not respond. During the standoff, police found the barricaded man was a felon from Texas, Nelson said.

Officers obtained an arrest warrant for Pena on complaints of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm after a felony conviction and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, Nelson said.

Tactical officers tried to execute the warrant about 6 p.m. with the aid of a robot; they then heard a muffled gunshot. About 6:30 p.m., officers entered the home and found the man dead in a bedroom, Nelson said.
