Ore. Deputy, Suspect Wounded During Shootout

A Marion County, Ore. Sheriff's deputy is recovering after being wounded during a shootout with a suspect in a rural area on Friday.

Deputies were pursuing a man in a stolen car around 9 a.m. but lost sight of the vehicle, according to KOIN-TV.

The car was later found and as a search for the suspect was about to conclude, officials told the news station that the man spotted Deputy Jim Buchholz and opened fire.

Buchholz was wounded and took cover. He began treating his own wound and immediately called for help.

Multiple law enforcement agencies arrived on the scene and additional gunfire was exchanged. Officials say the suspect was hit.

Buchholz, a nine-year veteran of the department, was transported to a local hospital and was listed in fair condition.

The incident is currently under investigation.
