A Memphis police officer was injured when he was pushed through the display window at B.B. King's Blues Club early Sunday morning.

During a routine patrol but in plain clothes, Memphis Police Officer Shawn May tried to break up a confrontation between Jon Riley, 27, of Memphis and others at 2:17 a.m. outside the club, authorities said.

Memphis Police Major Anthony W. Rudolph said in a news release that Riley also punched May several times.

May's partner, Officer Brian Falatko, left their vehicle to help May. Rudolph said Riley kept fighting and striking the officers until he pushed Falatko through the display window at B.B. King's at the corner of Beale and Second.

Falatko, 31, received serious injuries to his head and was taken to The Regional Medical Center at Memphis, where he was treated and released. May, 37, received minor injuries. Both officers have been assigned to the Entertainment District since 2008.

Riley was charged with aggravated assault, public intoxication, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
