Texas Police: Suspect Rams Cruiser, Hits Cop

Officials say that Dionicio Trevino punched a San Antonio officer in the face after ramming the cruiser.

SAN ANTONIO -- A San Antonio police officer reportedly was punched in the face by a drug suspect who is also accused of ramming an undercover squad car.

Court records do not give the officer's full name but said he suffered a bloody nose when Dionicio Trevino, age unavailable, punched him during a bust early Tuesday. Trevino and another man with him, Nicholas Arevalos, were arrested on a federal charge of possessing methamphetamine.

Trevino had been under investigation, suspected of dealing meth. Officers watched as he drove a 2010 Chrysler 300, and with Arevalos, meet with another person at an unspecified restaurant and then return to a hotel where Trevino was staying, a Marriott Courtyard on Northeast Loop 410, a criminal complaint affidavit said.

They were carrying Whataburger bags, went inside and returned to the car with a white bag, the affidavit said.

Officers pulled the car over for a traffic infraction on Perrin Beitel Road, north of Loop 410, the affidavit said. Trevino stopped the car, but then drove off, and the Chrysler hit the driver's side of an undercover police car in the process, the affidavit said.

After again being stopped, Trevino would not put his hands in the air as ordered. Officers broke the Chrysler's driver's side window, and tried to arrest Trevino. During the struggle, he punched an officer and had to be subdued on the ground, the affidavit said.

Officers searched the car and found 218 grams, or about half a pound, of meth, along with a loaded .380-caliber pistol and $850 in cash. They also found $1,200 and a drug ledger on Trevino and $2,000 on Arevalos, the affidavit said.

Both appeared in federal court Wednesday and were ordered held without bail pending hearings.
