Stopped Driver Flees With Texas Officer's Gun

Police are searching for a suspect who took a gun from an officer during a traffic stop in Houston.

Police are searching for a suspect who took a gun from an officer during a traffic stop Wednesday morning in southeast Houston.

The incident happened about 8:30 a.m. near Chavez High School at 8501 Howard, according to the Houston Independent School District.

An HISD police officer stopped a white Mercury Marquis for a traffic violation. The driver had an altercation with the officer and took his gun. Then the suspect sped away.

The suspect is not an HISD student and officials said they don't believe he is a threat to any schools.

Officials did not release the suspect's description or details about the traffic violation that prompted the officer to stop the car.
