Florida Deputy Succumbs to Injuries From Crash

Deputy Daniel Rivera was critically injured in a crash while driving to work on earlier this month.

A Broward County sheriff's deputy critically injured in a crash while driving to work on earlier this month died late Saturday night.

Deputy Daniel Rivera was pronounced dead at 10 p.m. at Broward Health North Hospital, according to The Sun-Sentinel.

Officials say the 10-year veteran of the sheriff's office was en route to the department's Pompano Beach district office on the day of the crash.

Rivera, 32, was attempting to exit I-95 on Atlantic Boulevard on the wet roadway when his vehicle left and struck a tree.

Rivera’s family is "grateful for the outpouring of support during this difficult time," Broward County Sheriff's Office Veda Coleman-Wright said in a statement. "We ask that you continue to pray for Rivera's family and his BSO family."

Funeral arrangements are pending.
