Two police officers were wounded during a search operation Tuesday and two suspects were captured.

Two Phoenix police officers were wounded during a search operation late Tuesday night.

Phoenix police were notified of the suspect and vehicle description after Mesa police responded to a woman found shot at a canal around 7:30 p.m., according to KNXV-TV.

Officers located the vehicle at 65th and Devonshire Avenues and were led on a pursuit. While officials say the driver gave up, the passenger ran away before ambushing officers with a sawed-off shotgun.

One officer was hit in both lower extremities while another was hit in one of his legs. A third officer suffered an ankle injury.

Sgt. Trent Crump told the newspaper that the officers were walking around at the scene before being transported to local hospitals for treatment.

One suspect in the hospital in serious but non-life threatening condition while the other is in police custody.
