Man Convicted in Death of Texas Police Officer

A man accused in the drunken driving death of a Waxahachie police officer was convicted Thursday.

Dylyn Richards was found guilty of intoxication manslaughter for the July 27 crash that claimed the life of Officer Josh Williams, according to KDFW-TV.

The incident occurred in the 600 block of North Highway 77 just before 12:30 a.m. as 17-year veteran was responding to a call.

Police said Richards was speeding without his headlights on and slammed into the cruiser. The 24-year-old had had a blood alcohol level over the legal limit.

The sentencing phase for Richards began Friday.
