NYPD Says Officers Shot Man Stabbing Woman

The officers ordered the man to stop before shooting him after he failed to comply.

A Bronx man -- who's in critical condition after being shot by a cop -- is facing multiple charges after repeatedly stabbing a woman and trying to assault a police officer, officials said.

A woman flagged down police officers around 8:25 p.m. Saturday and took them to an apartment at 560 Morris Ave., where they found Guillermo Melendez, 37, stabbing a 35-year-old woman in her chest and legs.

Cops ordered Melendez to stop but he did not comply, and one of the officers shot Melendez, according to the NYPD. Melendez and the victim, who suffered multiple stab wounds, were listed in critical, but stable condition.

The victim "was his ex," said a neighbor visiting the apartment Sunday.

Melendez was just charged with attempted murder, attempting to assault a police officer, menacing and weapons possesion.

The two police officers were taken to Jacobi Hospital, treated for tinnitus, and released.
