State Police are investigating allegations that a male Santa Fe police officer raped a female officer.

The State Police are investigating an allegation that a male Santa Fe city police officer raped a female officer who is also with the city Police Department.

A State Police spokesman confirmed the investigation Tuesday. The State Police are "looking into the case for SFPD," Sgt. Emmanuel Gutierrez said via text.

"This is an active investigation and we can't currently comment on it," he added. "Upon completion of this investigation, it will be forwarded to the district attorney's office for review and disposition."

Santa Fe Police Chief Ray Rael said he received a complaint about a week-and-a-half ago that "an officer may have engaged in some criminal activity."

Rael wouldn't confirm the nature of the complaint.

Rael said the matter was immediately forwarded to State Police. A SFPD internal affairs investigation has also been launched, he said.

The allegations are being taken seriously, as they would in any similar case, Rael said.
