Florida Sheriff's Deputy Fatally Shot by Suspect

Charlotte County Cpl. Michael Wilson was shot and killed responding to a domestic disturbance call.

A Charlotte County Sheriff's deputy was fatally shot Monday night at an apartment complex in Port Charlotte.

Cpl. Michael Wilson, 42, was responding to a domestic disturbance call at the Lakes of Tuscana Apartments on Veterans Boulevard when the incident occurred, according to The Herald-Tribune.

The suspected gunman was found dead inside one of the units by SWAT Team members shortly after midnight.

The 20-year veteran of the department is survived by his wife and children.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
